The report was based on data from a survey of more than 350 small business owners with less than 500 employees.
71% of small business owners say they use social media, and 16% are planning to in the future.
Facebook is still top (86%) among small businesses. Instagram is second (48%), with YouTube (46%), Twitter (44%), LinkedIn (31%), and SnapChat (25%) not far behind. Facebook is so popular that 12% of small businesses use only that platform for social media.
Just over half of small businesses post to their social media channels daily – something experts recommend to keep followers engaged. Although posting often is important, be careful not to post too much. Small businesses need to find a frequency that works for their brand.
The majority of small businesses post images/infographics (54%) and post offers/promotions (52%) .
Most businesses post images on social media because they are attention-grabbing.
The Benefit of Social Media
Small businesses that use social media can connect with their audience and share interesting content. Other advantages of using social media include:
- Increased brand awareness
- More inbound traffic
- Improved search engine rankings
- Higher conversion rates
- Better customer satisfaction
While three-quarters of businesses use social media, this number should be higher. If your business doesn’t already have the appropriate profiles, create them! Fill out your business’s information and post some engaging content to begin gaining followers. Ask people relevant to your business to “like” and “share” your page to help build your profile. With consistent updating, the right social media marketing strategy will lead to increased traffic, better SEO, higher conversion rates, improved brand loyalty, and much more.
