On Sunday, December 9, 2018 the Belleview/South Marion Chamber of Commerce hosted the annual Belleview Christmas Parade. Parade watchers, as well as those taking part waited to see if the early morning rain would cause the parade to be cancelled.
Even with the uncooperative weather, the parade featured over 50 entries.
The Belleview/South Marion Chamber of Commerce would like to thank the Belleview Police Department, Marion County Sheriff’s Office, and Marion County Fire Department for getting the parade off to a fantastic start. The Belleview Police Department’s Explorers Color Guard was presented by Explorer Brown, Explorer McPherson, Explorer Jolley, Explorer Karim, Explorer Lacognata, and Explorer Curci.
Local law enforcement from multiple agencies, dignitaries, local politicians, City of Belleview employees, and other honored guests were invited for a luncheon before the start of the parade. Each year food and supplies are donated by local restaurants and businesses. This years food was donated by Brick City Southern Kitchen & Whiskey Bar, The Mojo Grille and Catering Belleview, Mary’s Place, Pasta Faire, Subway Belleview, Hardee’s Belleview, Todd & Shelly’s Farm Fresh Cafe & Pub, Woody’s Wild Wings, CM PC Repair, Centerstate Bank Belleview, and Community Bank & Trust Belleview.
The Grand Marshall of the 2018 Belleview Christmas Parade was Congressman Daniel Webster. Congressman Daniel Webster was driven in a sleek 1940 Ford Convertible driven by the one and only “Big Daddy” Don Garlits. Senator Dennis Baxley is much appreciated for his continued support of the Belleview/South Marion Chamber of Commerce. We were honored to have City of Belleview Mayor Christine Dobkowski, City of Belleview Commissioner Robert “Bo” Smith, City of Belleview Commissioner Gary Ernst, City of Belleview Commissioner Ronald Livsey, and Marion County Commissioner Michelle Stone. MyVillageFord provided new Ford vehicles for the dignitaries.
Special Guest Santa Claus ended the parade with waves and smiles. Santa Claus was driven in a horse drawn carriage by Jennifer Schuck of Schuck Equestrian at Diamond Oaks Farm in Anthony, and pulled by Vaidoso, an 18-year-old Lusitano.
The Christmas Parade takes many hours of planning, setting up, and executing the event. The Parade Committee was led by Cristy Shihinski of CM PC Repair and Chester Anderson of E.A.D. Elevations Academy of Dance.
